Minister Nitesh Rane Directs Immediate Restoration of Power and Water Supply in Sindhudurg
Mumbai, May 2026: Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister and Sindhudurg Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane on Monday directed the district administration to immediately restore electricity and water supply in Sindhudurg district following extensive damage caused by strong winds and stormy weather.
Chairing an emergency review meeting at Mantralaya, Minister Rane instructed officials to maintain continuous communication with citizens and ensure that grievances are addressed promptly. He also directed the administration to remain fully prepared at a war footing in view of possible climatic disturbances linked to the El-Nino phenomenon.
Severe storms in Sindhudurg district have caused widespread damage to electricity poles, transformers and other power infrastructure, disrupting power supply in several areas. As a result, water supply services have also been affected in many parts of the district.
During the meeting, the district administration briefed the minister on the extent of the damage and ongoing restoration work. Officials from Mahavitaran informed the meeting that iron RCC poles and other essential materials had already been positioned at various locations to speed up repair operations.
Minister Rane instructed Mahavitaran officials to keep breakdown response teams operational round-the-clock across the district, including in Kankavli and Kudal divisions. He directed officials to ensure that manpower and machinery available through the district’s 10 subdivisions, two divisions and 53 branch offices are utilised at full capacity to restore electricity supply in the shortest possible time.
The minister also emphasised the need for constant public engagement during emergency situations. He instructed officials to remain accessible to citizens at all times and respond to complaints without delay.
“Citizens’ phone calls must be answered on time and handled properly. Not a single call should remain ‘not reachable’ or ‘not responding’. Even missed calls must receive immediate attention, and there should be no delay in grievance redressal,” he told Mahavitaran officials.
Highlighting the potential impact of El-Nino, Minister Rane warned that the state could face increased risks of water scarcity, unseasonal rainfall and extreme weather fluctuations in the coming months. He asked departments concerned to strengthen planning related to storm management, electricity supply and water distribution systems.
He further directed all departments, including Mahavitaran, to enhance preparedness by strengthening manpower, machinery, breakdown teams and communication systems to effectively handle any future emergencies.
The meeting was attended virtually by the Sindhudurg District Collector, senior Mahavitaran officials from the district and other concerned authorities.
