PM Modi Arrives in Guwahati for Assam NDA Government’s Swearing-In Ceremony
Guwahati, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Monday night to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Assam, scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar, where he was received by Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, senior party leaders, and top government officials.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara at 11 a.m., marking the formation of the BJP-led NDA government for another term in the state following its decisive victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
Ahead of the ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma personally reviewed preparations at the venue and expressed confidence that the new government would continue to focus on development and implementation of the alliance’s electoral promises.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma said several senior NDA leaders are expected to attend the event, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers from various BJP-ruled and NDA-ruled states.
The event is also expected to witness the participation of thousands of BJP workers and booth-level karyakartas from across Assam, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the state after the elections.
Officials said elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in and around Khanapara due to the presence of the Prime Minister and several senior political leaders. Multi-layered security deployment, barricading, traffic diversions, and surveillance measures have been implemented to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
Senior police officials conducted detailed inspections of the venue and surrounding areas on Monday to review preparedness and coordinate crowd management and security protocols.
Sarma also announced that the first Cabinet meeting of the new government would be held shortly after the swearing-in ceremony. He stated that the government’s immediate focus would remain on governance reforms, infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and implementation of commitments made during the election campaign.
The BJP-led NDA secured a strong mandate in the Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Himanta Biswa Sarma to take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. The alliance’s victory further strengthened the BJP’s political position in the Northeast region.
Political observers view the swearing-in ceremony as a significant event not only for Assam but also for the BJP-led NDA nationally, given the party’s continued dominance in the region and the presence of top central leadership at the occasion.
