India and UAE Reaffirm Strong Strategic Partnership; PM Modi Stresses Global Peace and Energy Security in Abu Dhabi Talks

Abu Dhabi, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday underscored the enduring strength of India-UAE relations, stating that the friendship between the two nations remains “very strong” and both countries will continue working together to build a better future for the world.

“The friendship between India and UAE is very strong! Our nations will keep working together with the aim of building a better future for our planet,” PM Modi said after holding “wide-ranging and productive” discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

The high-level meeting marked a significant reaffirmation of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both leaders reviewing cooperation across key sectors such as energy, trade, investment, technology, defence, blue economy and people-to-people relations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two sides also exchanged views on regional developments in West Asia and broader global challenges.

Strong Push to Strategic Cooperation and Investments

The MEA stated that the talks resulted in the exchange of several important agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in energy, defence, infrastructure—including shipping—and advanced technology. These agreements are expected to further accelerate momentum in the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.

A major highlight of the visit was the announcement of USD 5 billion in fresh UAE investments in India. According to officials, these investments will be directed towards strengthening infrastructure development and financial markets, marking a significant boost to India’s economic growth and global investment inflows.

The MEA added that the visit has also provided a major push to India’s energy security agenda, especially in the context of global volatility in energy markets.

Condemnation of Attacks on UAE; Call for Peace and Stability

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned recent attacks on the UAE and attempts to violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed solidarity with the UAE leadership and praised its response to the crisis.

“The way the UAE was targeted is unacceptable in any form. In these difficult circumstances, the restraint and courage you demonstrated are highly commendable,” PM Modi said. He also appreciated the UAE government and royal family for their care and support extended to the Indian community during challenging times.

“The way you cared for the Indian community and looked after them like members of your own family, I express my heartfelt appreciation to the UAE government and the royal family,” he added.

Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace, stability and prosperity, with a focus on strengthening coordination in the face of emerging geopolitical challenges.

Focus on Energy Security and Global Trade Stability

PM Modi highlighted that the ongoing instability in West Asia is having global repercussions, particularly on trade and energy markets. He reiterated India’s consistent stand in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving conflicts.

He also stressed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, free and secure remains a top priority for India due to its critical importance in global energy supply chains.

“India has always given priority to dialogue and diplomacy for resolving issues. Keeping Hormuz free, open and safe is our highest priority. Adherence to international laws is essential,” he said.

India’s Commitment to UAE Partnership

Reaffirming India’s commitment to the UAE, PM Modi said New Delhi stands firmly with Abu Dhabi in all circumstances.

“India stands shoulder to shoulder with the UAE in every situation and will continue to do so in the future as well. India is ready to provide every possible support for the restoration of peace and stability at the earliest,” he stated.

The visit further reinforced the growing strategic convergence between India and the UAE, with both sides signalling intent to expand cooperation in emerging sectors such as fintech, blue economy, renewable energy and advanced technology.

The talks concluded with a shared vision to elevate the partnership to even greater heights in the coming years, strengthening not only bilateral ties but also contributing to global stability and development.
