Nicholas Pooran’s Fireworks Power LSG to Commanding 7-Wicket Win Over CSK in High-Scoring IPL Clash

Lucknow, May 2026 : Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) delivered a dominant all-round batting performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets in a high-scoring IPL encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. Chasing a challenging target of 188 runs, LSG overhauled the total comfortably in just 16.4 overs, finishing at 188/3, powered by a sensational late assault from Nicholas Pooran.

CSK, after being put into bat first, posted a competitive 187/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to a strong top-order contribution and a late flourish. Kartik Sharma anchored the innings with a brilliant 71 off his bat, while Shivam Dube provided the finishing touches with an explosive unbeaten cameo that helped Chennai reach a strong total. Despite early pressure from LSG’s bowling unit, CSK managed to accelerate in the death overs and set a formidable target.

However, the match turned decisively in favour of LSG once their chase began. The opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis set the tone with an aggressive start, adding 80 runs without loss in just 5.5 overs. The duo took on the CSK bowling attack fearlessly, particularly targeting Spencer Johnson and Mohammed Shami in the powerplay.

Inglis played an attacking role, finding boundaries with ease, including a crisp shot over backward point early in the innings. Marsh complemented him well, driving a 142 kmph delivery through the covers with authority. Their intent ensured that CSK were immediately under pressure, unable to settle into any rhythm.

Even as CSK attempted to regroup, their bowlers failed to break the partnership early, allowing LSG to maintain a blistering run rate of 13.71 per over. The opening stand laid a perfect foundation for the middle order to finish the job.

After the departure of the openers, Nicholas Pooran took centre stage and completely changed the complexion of the match. Walking in with intent, Pooran launched a brutal assault on the CSK bowling attack, especially targeting the fast bowlers in the death overs.

Pooran’s innings was a display of clean, powerful hitting as he smashed multiple sixes and boundaries, dismantling any hopes of a CSK comeback. His aggressive approach left the opposition bowlers helpless as he ensured that the required rate never became a concern for LSG.

Earlier, CSK’s bowlers had struggled throughout the innings. While Akash Singh and Mohammed Shami picked up early wickets, they were unable to contain runs in the final overs. Kartik Sharma’s earlier 71 and Dube’s late hitting had already set CSK up with a defendable total, but their bowling unit could not execute under pressure.

LSG continued their dominance in the chase, reaching the target with ease and sealing a comprehensive 7-wicket win. The victory marked their second consecutive home win, strengthening their position in the tournament.

Nicholas Pooran’s explosive innings remained the defining highlight of the match, as his fearless hitting not only sealed the victory but also electrified the home crowd, turning the contest into a one-sided spectacle in the final phase.
