Gorakhpur, May 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a major announcement in the interest of sports and players while performing the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation laying ceremony of the International Cricket Stadium in Gorakhpur. He said that a world-class Sports Complex would be built on the 60 acres of land reserved adjacent to this International Cricket Stadium.
In the presence of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, while addressing the gathering after performing the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation laying ceremony of the International Cricket Stadium to be built at a cost of around Rs 393 crore in Tal Nador, Gorakhpur on Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “While an International Cricket Stadium with a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators would be built on 46 acres here, a world-class Sports Complex would also be constructed on the adjoining 60 acres of land.”
He added, facilities for all kinds of indoor games would be made available there, while outdoor games like hockey would also be possible. With the construction of the International Cricket Stadium and Sports Complex, a new chain of hotels, restaurants and markets will emerge in the area, and a large number of new employment opportunities will also be generated.
Discussing the developmental transformation taking place in the Tal Nador area, the Chief Minister informed, a few years ago this area was barren and neglected, and anyone could encroach upon it at will. Now, the land here has been freed from encroachment. The double-engine government is providing an excellent platform on this land to shape the future of youth. The International Cricket Stadium will fulfil the dreams of youth and future generations. Government land will be used for public welfare and development projects. With the same vision, a Veterinary College is also being established in Tal Nador.
CM Yogi stated, “The government has made the state mafia-free, hooliganism-free, riot-free and curfew-free. Due to this, the state is moving forward on the path of development. When development takes place, employment generation happens automatically. People who divide society in the name of caste, language and region cannot be well-wishers of the public. When such people got power, they spread hooliganism, anarchy and disorder. Instead of public welfare, they misused power for their families. But the double-engine government is working for public welfare and employment generation.”
Reiterating the government’s commitment towards encouraging players, the Chief Minister stated, till now around 550 medal-winning players have been given government jobs through direct recruitment in Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, recruitment for another 500 players has again been announced. Through this, appointment letters will soon be provided through direct recruitment to players winning medals in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and other competitions.
He informed, “Till now, under direct recruitment, Lalit Upadhyay, Deepti Sharma, Parul Chaudhary, Arjun Deshwal, Praveen Kumar and Rajkumar Pal have been directly appointed as Deputy SPs in UP Police. Vijay Kumar Yadav and Divya Kakran have been appointed as Naib Tehsildars, Arjun Singh as Passenger and Goods Tax Officer, Prachi and Puneet Kumar as District Youth Welfare Officers, Ajit Singh and Simran as District Panchayat Raj Officers, Preeti Pal as Block Development Officer, and Rinku Singh as Regional Sports Officer.”
Chief Minister also said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new sports culture has advanced through Khelo India, Fit India Movement and MP Sports Competitions. As a result, India’s participation and medal tally in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and world-level competitions have increased.
He said that it is the government’s responsibility to provide infrastructure to players, and the government is fulfilling this responsibility effectively. With better facilities, players are realising PM Modi’s vision. The government is developing sports grounds in every village, mini stadiums at block level, stadiums at district level and Sports Colleges at divisional level. A Sports University has already been built in Meerut, and its grand inauguration ceremony is going to be held in this very session.
CM stated, “Earlier it used to take four to five hours to travel to Varanasi through the Gorakhpur-Varanasi route where the International Cricket Stadium is being built, but now it takes only two-and-a-half hours. Similarly, the travel time from Gorakhpur to Lucknow has reduced from eight hours to three-and-a-half hours. The government is not only reducing distances but is also accelerating development and generating employment opportunities.”

Many countries are facing disorder and instability. Prices of petroleum products are skyrocketing. In such circumstances, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri has demonstrated excellent management in India. Although oil companies faced a burden, they continuously provided relief to the common people during the crisis.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Petroleum Minister, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum for providing Rs 100 crore from CSR funds for the construction of the International Cricket Stadium in Gorakhpur.
