Governor urges citizens to exercise their franchise in ULB elections

·         Makes special appeal to first-time voters to strengthen democracy through active participation

Governor Kavinder Gupta has appealed to all eligible voters across Himachal Pradesh to participate actively in the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections scheduled for 17 May, 2026.

As campaigning for the ULB elections concluded today, polling is set to take place tomorrow for the Municipal Corporations of Dharamsala, Solan, Mandi and Palampur along with several municipal councils and nagar panchayats across the state.

In his message, the Governor said that ULB elections play an important role in strengthening local self-governance and ensuring better civic facilities and development in towns and cities. He urged voters to come forward and cast their votes responsibly, calling voting both a right and a duty.

The Governor also made a special appeal to first-time voters and youth to participate enthusiastically in the democratic process. He said that casting a vote for the first time is a matter of pride and responsibility and encouraged young voters to contribute actively towards the future development of their cities and the state.

He further appealed to people to reach their polling stations peacefully and maintain discipline, harmony and the spirit of fair elections during the voting process.
