Sindhudurgnagari, May 2026 : Maharashtra Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane directed the district administration to remain fully alert and ensure effective disaster management preparedness in view of the upcoming monsoon season, possible heavy rainfall, cyclones, and the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.

He was speaking during a district-level pre-monsoon preparedness review meeting held to assess the readiness of various government departments ahead of the rainy season.

The meeting was attended by District Collector Trupti Dhodmise, Chief Executive Officer Ravindra Khebudkar, District Bank Chairman Manish Dalvi, Resident Deputy Collector Machhindra Sukte, District Disaster Management Officer Rajshree Samant, and officials from concerned departments through video conferencing.

During the meeting, officials from different departments presented a detailed review of pre-monsoon preparations. The Guardian Minister stressed that all agencies must work in close coordination while preparing for potential disasters such as heavy rains, floods, landslides, cyclones, and power disruptions across the district.

Noting that landslides are more frequent in ghat regions, Rane instructed officials to implement special preventive measures in vulnerable areas. He directed the concerned departments to install protective safety nets along ghat roads and remove dangerous trees that could pose risks during heavy rains.

Emphasising the need for greater vigilance in flood-prone villages, the Minister said the number of rescue boats should be increased to ensure faster and more effective emergency response operations. The Minister further directed officials to widely publicise important emergency contact numbers so that citizens can easily access help during crises.

The Health Department was asked to remain fully prepared for possible outbreaks of seasonal diseases during the monsoon. Instructions were issued to maintain adequate stocks of medicines, keep medical teams ready, and ensure healthcare facilities remain fully functional during emergencies.

Rane also instructed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) to take preventive measures to avoid power disruptions during storms and heavy rainfall. He stressed that citizens should not face unnecessary inconvenience due to interruptions in essential services.

Considering the large number of tourists visiting destinations such as Amboli and other scenic locations in the district during the monsoon, the Guardian Minister called for a special awareness campaign for tourists. He directed the local administration, police, and tourism department to work together to prevent visitors from entering dangerous areas.

The Minister also instructed authorities to speed up desilting work in rivers across the district to minimise the risk of flooding during the rainy season.
