India Emerging as ‘Founder Nation’ in AI, Robotics and Semiconductors: Amit Shah
Ahmedabad, May 2026 : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said India is rapidly emerging as a “founder nation” in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors, and quantum computing, asserting that the country is now building a strong presence in industries that will define the global economy in the coming decades.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the first phase of Million Minds Tech City, Gujarat’s first Special Economic Zone (SEZ)-based IT park, located in Tragad near Ahmedabad.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said India had undergone a major transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was no longer trailing behind in advanced technology sectors.
“AI and deep tech are the future economy. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become a founder nation in all emerging sectors in the world today,” Shah said.
“There was a time when India had fallen behind in many sectors, but today the country is establishing a strong presence in all those areas that are going to shape the world economy over the next 25 years,” he added.
Focus on future technologies
The Union Minister highlighted that technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, semiconductors, defence technology, quantum computing, and space technology would become the backbone of the future economy.
According to him, these sectors would require not only advanced infrastructure but also a large pool of highly skilled professionals.
“The intelligence is already there among our youth. What we need now is to provide them the right space, atmosphere, and support system,” Shah said.
He stated that projects like Million Minds Tech City would play a crucial role in building a world-class innovation ecosystem in India and help create an environment where technology-driven industries could flourish.
Massive investment and job creation
Shah noted that the first phase of the tech city project is being developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 1,100 crore across 13.5 lakh square feet.
The initial phase is expected to provide workspace for nearly 9,000 highly skilled professionals.
He further revealed that the complete seven-phase project is projected to attract investments worth approximately Rs 15,000 crore over the next five years.
According to estimates shared at the event, the project could generate more than 63,000 high-value jobs, significantly boosting Gujarat’s technology and innovation landscape.
Gujarat becoming a technology hub
The Home Minister said Gujarat’s economy has been witnessing a gradual transformation in recent years, with increasing focus on technology parks, innovation centres, and global capability hubs.
He emphasised that the state is positioning itself as an important destination for advanced industries and knowledge-based sectors.
Shah also underlined the importance of modern urban planning and infrastructure development in supporting India’s growth ambitions.
“India needs skilled leadership and modern thinking in urban planning and infrastructure development to match the pace of global transformation,” he said.
He added that infrastructure projects aligned with future technologies would help India strengthen its global competitiveness and create opportunities for young professionals.
Prominent leaders attend event
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, senior government officials, and representatives of Ganesh Housing Limited, which is associated with the development of the project.
The launch of Million Minds Tech City is being seen as a major step toward strengthening Gujarat’s role in India’s growing technology and innovation ecosystem, particularly in sectors linked to deep technology and future-ready industries.
