Marsh Falls Four Short of Century as LSG Post 220; Rajasthan Royals Begin Chase with Blazing Start in Jaipur Thriller
Jaipur, May 2026 : Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) produced a power-packed batting display to register a massive 220/5 in their 20 overs against Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash, before Rajasthan responded with an explosive start in their chase at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday.
Batting first, LSG were driven by a sensational knock from Mitchell Marsh, who narrowly missed out on a century. Marsh hammered 96 off just 57 balls, striking 11 fours and 5 sixes in a dominant innings that set the tone for the visitors. His dismissal came in dramatic fashion as he was run out in the final over while attempting to push the scoring rate even further, falling just four runs short of what would have been a well-deserved hundred.
LSG got off to a flying start with Josh Inglis joining Marsh at the top. The pair took full advantage of the powerplay, putting the Rajasthan bowlers under immediate pressure. Inglis played a blistering knock of 60 runs from 29 deliveries, smashing boundaries at will and ensuring LSG maintained a high scoring tempo from the outset.
After the solid opening stand, Nicholas Pooran and skipper Rishabh Pant continued the aggressive approach. Pooran rotated strike smartly while also finding boundaries, helping LSG maintain momentum in the middle overs. Pant added a quickfire 35 off 23 balls, keeping the scoreboard moving briskly before his innings ended with a run-out in the 19th over, just when LSG looked set for an even bigger finish.
The final overs saw Rajasthan Royals attempting a late comeback through disciplined bowling. Jofra Archer provided a breakthrough in the last over, removing Ayush Badoni with a sharp delivery that knocked over the stumps. Archer also played a role in the dismissal of Marsh, who was run out under pressure while pushing for quick runs in the death overs.
Yash Raj Punja contributed with two wickets, helping restrict LSG slightly in the final phase, but the damage had already been done earlier. The visitors finished at a commanding 220/5, maintaining an impressive scoring rate of over 11 runs per over throughout their innings.
Chasing a daunting target of 221, Rajasthan Royals wasted no time in responding with intent. They launched their innings in explosive fashion, scoring 23 runs in the very first over without losing a wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge, showcasing his attacking intent from the start.
Jaiswal raced to 16 runs off just 6 balls, smashing three consecutive boundaries off Akash Singh in a chaotic opening over. His stroke play included a powerful pull shot, a crisp backfoot cut, and another authoritative pull, all of which pierced the field with precision.
Akash Singh endured a tough start, conceding a wide along with multiple boundary deliveries, including five wides in a single over that inflated the scoring further. The final delivery of the over saw Jaiswal dispatch the ball towards the point region, where a misfield allowed it to race away to the boundary, adding to LSG’s early misery.
At the other end, young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi struggled to get off the mark, remaining scoreless as Jaiswal dominated the strike and set the tone for the chase.
With Rajasthan Royals showing early aggression and LSG having posted a formidable total, the match was perfectly poised for a thrilling finish in Jaipur.
