Infrastructure Projects Must Be Completed Swiftly for a Prosperous Maharashtra: Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis Various projects reviewed during Chief Minister’s War Room meeting
Mumbai, June 2026 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all concerned agencies to expedite the completion of major infrastructure projects, stressing that timely execution is essential for the state’s economic growth and prosperity. He instructed departments to resolve hurdles delaying project implementation and ensure that contractors complete work within the stipulated timelines.
Speaking during the Infrastructure War Room meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, the Chief Minister warned that contractors responsible for significant delays should not be awarded any new projects by government agencies.
Fadnavis emphasized that infrastructure projects must be completed within three to three-and-a-half years under all circumstances. He said that future tender processes should include a contractor’s track record regarding timely completion of previous projects as an evaluation criterion.
“Delays in project execution result in losses for both the nation and the state. Therefore, delays will not be tolerated under any circumstances. While infrastructure projects face various challenges, implementing agencies must overcome these obstacles and move forward efficiently,” he said.
Dharavi Redevelopment and Housing Projects
Reviewing the Dharavi Slum Redevelopment Project, the Chief Minister directed officials to explore providing State GST concessions to entrepreneurs operating in Dharavi. Such incentives, he said, would strengthen local businesses and help transform the area’s informal economy into a formal one.
He further stated that issues related to the redevelopment project that are already part of the tender process need not be brought before the Cabinet again. Instead, departments should coordinate among themselves and resolve pending matters through consultation.
Regarding the redevelopment of BDD Chawls at N.M. Joshi Marg, Naigaon, and Worli, Fadnavis instructed authorities to take possession of residential units without delay after providing rent assistance to existing residents and to begin redevelopment work immediately.
Focus on Major Connectivity Projects
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel Project is completed within the prescribed timeline, with clear three-month milestones established to monitor progress.
Similarly, the Goregaon–Mulund Twin Tunnel Project should be completed by January 2029, he said, noting that it would significantly improve connectivity between Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs.
He also reviewed the Bandra–Versova Sea Link Project, calling it a crucial infrastructure initiative and instructing authorities to remove bottlenecks affecting its progress.
Fadnavis further emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies for infrastructure projects, enabling construction activities to continue without disruption.
Virar–Alibag Multimodal Corridor
The Chief Minister called for accelerated land acquisition for the Virar–Alibag Multimodal Corridor. He noted that land values along the corridor are expected to increase substantially once the project is completed.
He suggested that the government explore ways to leverage this rise in land value for public benefit and plan designated zones along the corridor where land could be made available to investors for the development of specific industries.
Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Projects
Fadnavis directed officials to speed up work on the Pune Ring Road Project and ensure land availability for the Mula-Mutha River Rejuvenation Project.
As Pune’s metro network continues to expand, he stressed the need for an integrated ticketing system to provide commuters with seamless travel across different modes of transport.
The Chief Minister also instructed the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation and the Water Supply Department to work in close coordination to address existing challenges and ensure adequate water supply to city residents.
