Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Conducts Surprise Inspection of OPD Services at SMS Hospital

Directs Officials to Improve Healthcare Services; Calls for Diagnostic and Medicine Counters Within Departmental OPDs

Jaipur, June 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma conducted a surprise inspection of the Outpatient Department (OPD) services at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital on Saturday. During the visit, he reviewed medical facilities, availability of medicines, diagnostic services, and cleanliness across various departments and sought detailed information from the hospital administration.

The Chief Minister also interacted warmly with patients and their attendants, gathering firsthand feedback about the services being provided. Based on their responses, he directed officials to implement necessary improvements to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.

Notably, Sharma made the unannounced visit to SMS Hospital immediately after returning to Jaipur from his Bhilwara tour. He inspected OPD services at the Dhanvantari Building and reviewed facilities in departments including Medicine, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology, and others.

Highlighting the importance of SMS Hospital, the Chief Minister said that it is one of the country’s premier medical institutions, catering not only to patients from Rajasthan but also to those from neighbouring states. Given the heavy patient load, he stressed the need for continuous expansion of services and greater use of technology to ensure convenient and efficient treatment for all patients.

Sharma instructed the hospital administration to ensure that patients do not have to move from one location to another for diagnostic tests or medicines. He directed that adequate arrangements be made for diagnostic facilities and medicine distribution counters within the respective departmental OPDs wherever possible.

He also emphasized the need to improve patient amenities, directing officials to provide sufficient seating arrangements, safe drinking water, and maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the hospital premises for the comfort of patients and their attendants.

Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to further strengthening healthcare services at SMS Hospital so that patients receive timely and quality treatment.

He noted that significant improvements have been made in healthcare facilities at SMS Hospital over the past two and a half years and appreciated the efforts of the Medical and Health Department as well as the hospital administration. However, he added that wherever there is scope for further improvement, the government will take the necessary corrective measures.

Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore, SMS Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Superintendent Dr. Mrinal Joshi, along with doctors and hospital staff, were present during the inspection.
