Film City Organises Marathi Short Film and Documentary Festival as Part of MIFF 2026
Mumbai, June 2026: As part of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026, the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, under the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Maharashtra, has organised a special festival showcasing 19 selected Marathi short films and documentaries.
The festival will be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the mini theatre of the Pu. La. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Mumbai.
The event will run from June 16 to June 20, 2026, with screenings scheduled daily at 6:30 p.m. However, on June 19, screenings will be held between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The initiative aims to provide a platform for both emerging and established filmmakers from the Marathi film industry to showcase their creative works. The festival is being organised under the guidance of Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, Secretary of the Department of Cultural Affairs Kiran Kulkarni, and Managing Director of the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation Swati Mhase Patil.
On Tuesday, June 16, the short films “Maybache Ashirwad,” “Metkut,” and “Nehmich” will be screened, along with the documentary “Phad.”
On Wednesday, June 17, audiences can watch the short films “Veni,” “Jaswand,” “Pamphlet,” and “Arjun,” while the documentary “Mahalle” will also be screened.
On Thursday, June 18, the festival will feature the short films “Brahmakamal,” “Gadhul,” “Dear 202,” and “17ve Varsh,” along with the documentary “Phad.”
On Friday, June 19, the short films “Pankhol,” “Arjun,” “Dongar Pani,” and “Darvatha” will be showcased.
The festival will conclude on Saturday, June 20, with screenings of the short films “Wagh,” “Sapshidi,” “Mukta,” and “Darvatha.”
Through these films and documentaries, audiences will get an opportunity to explore diverse themes including rural life, social realities, human relationships, cultural traditions and contemporary issues. The festival seeks to celebrate the richness of Marathi cinema while encouraging meaningful storytelling and artistic expression.
The special showcase forms part of the broader celebrations of MIFF 2026, one of the country’s premier festivals dedicated to documentary, short fiction and animation films. It is expected to provide a valuable platform for filmmakers and an enriching cinematic experience for audiences.
