Chief Minister Takes Public Interest Decision to Boost Sustainable Development by Promoting Green Buildings

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has made a public interest decision to promote sustainable development by encouraging green buildings, inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision. This important decision introduces a common CGDCR to promote green buildings in the state and mitigate the effects of global warming on human life.

The Chief Minister has ensured that the CGDCR includes provisions for promoting energy-efficient buildings and reducing carbon emissions in the construction sector, beyond the current green building standards. Under this provision, green buildings certified by rating agencies such as IGBC and LEED—alongside the existing GRIHA certification—are eligible for incentive FSI.

The Chief Minister’s directive also provides for an additional FSI of 7 to 12 per cent, depending on the rating from these agencies. Additionally, developers involved in green building projects will receive incentives. However, the state government has also introduced a penalty for non-compliance with green building provisions, set at twice the amount of the incentive FSI.
