Chhattisgarh Proposes Establishment of All India Institute of Ayurveda; Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai Meets Amit Shah

Raipur, June 2026: In a significant move aimed at developing Chhattisgarh into a national hub for Ayurvedic healthcare, research, and higher education, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday. During the meeting, the Chief Minister discussed various issues related to the state’s development and public welfare and formally proposed the establishment of an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Chhattisgarh.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also accompanied the Chief Minister during the meeting.

Chief Minister Sai informed the Union Home Minister that the All India Institutes of Ayurveda currently operating in New Delhi and Panaji have emerged as premier centres of excellence for Ayurvedic treatment, research, and innovation. He noted that these institutions have successfully integrated traditional medicine with modern scientific approaches, creating new opportunities in healthcare while producing skilled Ayurvedic practitioners and researchers.

Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s strengths, the Chief Minister said the state is rich in natural resources and medicinal wealth. A large part of the state is covered by forests that are home to numerous rare medicinal plants and herbs. He also pointed out that tribal communities in the region possess a rich heritage of traditional medicinal knowledge, which could significantly contribute to Ayurvedic research and development.

Sai emphasized that establishing an AIIA in Chhattisgarh would play a transformative role in advancing Ayurvedic medicine and research. It would not only provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the state but also create opportunities for students, teachers, and researchers to engage with a nationally recognized institution.

The Chief Minister stated that the institute would strengthen Ayurvedic education, promote scientific research, and help Chhattisgarh emerge as a leading centre for healthcare, education, and innovation.

He further noted that the benefits of the proposed institute would extend beyond Chhattisgarh, serving the broader Central Indian region. Residents of neighbouring states would also gain access to advanced Ayurvedic treatment facilities and research opportunities.

Referring to the Union Budget 2026, which announced the establishment of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda across the country, Sai urged the Centre to allocate one of these institutions to Chhattisgarh. He said the institute would not only strengthen healthcare services but also generate employment, encourage research, and accelerate knowledge-based development in the state.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also briefed Amit Shah on the progress of development projects, infrastructure expansion, and welfare initiatives being implemented in Bastar and other remote regions of Chhattisgarh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated the efforts being made by the state government towards development and public welfare and assured all possible support from the Central Government for Chhattisgarh’s growth initiatives.
