Jaishankar Holds High-Level Talks in Kuwait, Focuses on Strategic Partnership and Regional Security

Kuwait City, July 2026 : External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Wednesday held a series of high-level meetings with Kuwait’s top leadership, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with the Gulf nation while discussing regional security, economic cooperation and the welfare of the Indian community.

During his visit, Jaishankar called on Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for ensuring the safety, welfare and well-being of the large Indian diaspora living in the country and welcomed the Prime Minister’s vision for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.

The External Affairs Minister also held extensive discussions with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The two leaders reviewed the impact of recent tensions and conflicts in the Gulf region and exchanged views on regional developments with a focus on maintaining peace and stability.

In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar said the discussions covered a wide range of issues, including energy, trade, investments, defence cooperation, technology, food security and healthcare. He expressed confidence that the India-Kuwait Strategic Partnership would continue to grow stronger in the coming years.

Defence cooperation also featured prominently during Jaishankar’s meeting with Kuwait’s Defence Minister Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. The discussions focused on expanding defence industry collaboration, enhancing maritime security and exploring new avenues of strategic engagement between the two countries.

The External Affairs Minister also met members of the Indian community in Kuwait, acknowledging their significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations. He thanked the community for serving as a vital bridge between the two countries and appreciated their role in enhancing people-to-people ties. Jaishankar also interacted with community members, listening to their experiences and suggestions regarding India-Kuwait relations.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar called on the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah. During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral ties and exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Gulf. Jaishankar appreciated the Crown Prince’s commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors and conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Modi.

Following the meeting, the minister described the interaction as productive and thanked the Crown Prince for sharing his perspectives on regional developments. He noted that both sides remain committed to strengthening bilateral engagement across political, economic and strategic sectors.

Jaishankar arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday as part of the third leg of his six-nation diplomatic tour aimed at enhancing India’s partnerships across the region. Upon his arrival, he was received by Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Suleiman Mashaan Al-Mashaan.

Before reaching Kuwait, Jaishankar visited Bahrain, where he met Deputy Prime Minister Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation. His ongoing tour underscores India’s growing engagement with Gulf nations, with a focus on strategic partnerships, regional stability, trade, investment, energy security and the welfare of the Indian diaspora.
