Congress Stages Protest Near PM Modi’s Residence, Demands Accountability Over NEET Paper Leak

New Delhi, July 2026 : A day after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organised its ‘Sansad Chalo’ march over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, the Congress on Tuesday intensified its campaign against the Centre by staging a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in the national capital. The party demanded accountability over the police action against student protesters and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The demonstration was led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several senior party leaders and workers.

The Congress leaders assembled outside Kharge’s residence at 10, Rajaji Marg before marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, located a little over a kilometre away. The protest was organised to condemn the police action against students who had participated in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and during the CJP-led march towards Parliament over the alleged examination irregularities.

Addressing party workers and speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of attempting to suppress the voices of students instead of addressing their concerns about the examination system. He alleged that the Centre had failed to take responsibility for repeated examination controversies and criticised what he described as the excessive use of force against peaceful protesters.

In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress had marched to the Prime Minister’s residence to seek answers over the police action against students. He also accused the government of avoiding accountability and refusing to permit a discussion on the issue in Parliament.

The Congress leader demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the government’s handling of the examination controversy had undermined the future of millions of young aspirants.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi had criticised the Centre outside Parliament, describing the police action against students protesting the alleged NEET paper leak as “brutal.” He urged the Prime Minister to apologise for the incident and called for a comprehensive review of the country’s education and examination systems instead of using force against students demanding transparency.

“Students are raising their voice against a broken education system. Beating them is completely unacceptable. The Prime Minister should speak, apologise, and ensure such incidents are not repeated,” Rahul Gandhi said while accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress MPs.

The protest comes amid growing political controversy over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the handling of student demonstrations. On Monday, scores of students and youth activists participating in the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march were stopped by Delhi Police while attempting to proceed towards Parliament.

The police action, which reportedly involved the use of lathi charges and tear gas, drew sharp criticism from opposition parties and student organisations. The CJP alleged that several protesters sustained injuries during the operation and accused the police of using excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.

Delhi Police, however, defended its actions, stating that the protesters had displayed “unruly, aggressive and violent behaviour,” necessitating intervention to maintain law and order.

With the Opposition continuing to press for a parliamentary debate on the examination controversy and demanding accountability from the government, the NEET paper leak issue is expected to remain a major political flashpoint in the ongoing Parliament session.
