Winners of Hindi Competitions Awarded on Hindi Day

New Delhi : To promote the use of Hindi in daily official work, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice President Mr. Satish Upadhyay, along with Council Member Mrs. Vishakha Shailani, distributed prizes to 39 winners of the Hindi competitions. The event was organized by the Hindi Department at the NDMC Convention Center on Jai Singh Road, New Delhi.

In his address, Mr. Upadhyay highlighted that the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language on September 14, 1949. The first Hindi Day was celebrated on September 14, 1953, and since then, it has been observed annually to encourage the use of Hindi in government offices.

Mr. Upadhyay also stressed the importance of using Hindi on technological devices like computers, laptops, mobile phones, and social media platforms to inspire the younger generation. He emphasized that Hindi is not only a language that strengthens national unity but also serves as a communication medium for a large population abroad, representing India’s heritage, culture, and economy.

Mrs. Vishakha Shailani, NDMC Council Member, stated that Hindi should be seamlessly integrated into daily life. She encouraged celebrating this day as a festival rather than a mere promotion of the language, noting that Hindi unites people in diversity.

During the Hindi Fortnight, NDMC organized competitions in Hindi speech, poetry, essays, and debates for its employees. Over 1,000 participants from various sectors such as engineering, education, administration, finance, IT, and medical services took part. First, second, and third place winners received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,500, and Rs 2,500, respectively, while 10 participants from each category were awarded consolation prizes of Rs 1,000. Winners also received certificates of appreciation and mementos.

Mr. Radha Krishna, Director of Public Relations at NDMC, delivered the vote of thanks and encouraged employees to incorporate Hindi in both daily life and official work to foster communication with the public.
