India, Israel Make Steady Progress in Free Trade Agreement Talks After Second Negotiation Round

New Delhi, July 2026 : India and Israel have moved a step closer to finalising their proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) after successfully concluding the second round of negotiations in New Delhi. The four-day discussions, held from July 20 to 23, reflected the commitment of both countries to strengthen economic ties through a comprehensive and mutually beneficial trade pact.

The negotiations covered a broad range of issues, including trade in goods and services, rules of origin, customs procedures, trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property rights, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and economic cooperation. Officials from both sides engaged in detailed technical discussions aimed at resolving outstanding issues while identifying areas of mutual interest and convergence.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the talks were constructive and forward-looking, with experts working closely to create a modern framework that promotes trade, investment, and innovation. The proposed agreement is expected to significantly deepen economic integration between the two strategic partners and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

Dedicated technical sessions focused on streamlining customs procedures, harmonising regulatory standards, improving trade facilitation mechanisms, and strengthening intellectual property protection. Discussions also addressed ways to reduce non-tariff barriers and ensure smoother market access for exporters and investors from both nations.

The Commerce Ministry said both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to concluding the negotiations at the earliest possible opportunity. The objective is to secure a balanced and comprehensive agreement that enhances bilateral trade while supporting long-term economic growth and strategic cooperation.

India and Israel already share a robust economic relationship, with bilateral merchandise trade reaching nearly USD 3.93 billion during 2025-26. Officials believe the FTA will build on this strong foundation by expanding cooperation across high-growth sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, defence manufacturing, innovation, digital services, and advanced research.

Beyond its commercial benefits, the agreement carries significant strategic importance as both countries seek to diversify global trade partnerships and build more resilient supply chains. Enhanced economic cooperation is also expected to encourage greater investment flows, facilitate technology transfer, and strengthen collaboration in emerging industries.

The successful conclusion of the second round of negotiations marks another milestone in the India-Israel economic partnership. With positive momentum building, both governments remain optimistic about reaching a final agreement in the coming months, paving the way for increased trade, stronger business collaboration, and a more dynamic bilateral relationship that supports sustainable economic growth for both nations.
