Trump Says US Rapidly Rebuilding Weapons Stockpiles, Confident of Military Readiness

Washington, July 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Monday asserted that his administration is moving swiftly to rebuild America’s military stockpiles, saying the country remains well-equipped to meet any future security challenge despite the extensive military assistance provided to Ukraine in recent years.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while travelling to Michigan, Trump dismissed concerns that the United States could face shortages of ammunition or advanced weapons if another major conflict were to arise, including in the Middle East.

“No, we have money. We have a lot of ammunition. Different types,” Trump said when asked whether he was worried about the state of America’s military inventories.

The President acknowledged that large quantities of military equipment had been supplied to Ukraine during the previous administration but insisted that his government has already begun replenishing those supplies through a major expansion of domestic defence production.

“Biden gave a lot to Ukraine. So we’re building that up, but we have a lot,” Trump said. “We have a lot of the mid-level stuff too. More than we could ever use, no matter what.”

Trump contrasted the current situation with the one he said he inherited during his first term in office. According to him, the US military had relatively limited ammunition reserves when he took office after the Obama administration, prompting significant investments in defence manufacturing.

“When I came here after Obama, he didn’t buy ammunition. We had very little, and I got it built,” Trump said.

He claimed that by the end of his first presidency, the United States had accumulated strong military reserves before substantial quantities were later transferred to Ukraine.

“When I left, the cupboards were full. As soon as I left, they gave a lot of it to Ukraine—numbers that nobody’s ever seen before,” he added.

Highlighting efforts to strengthen America’s defence industrial base, Trump said the administration is overseeing a rapid expansion in weapons manufacturing capacity across the country. He noted that defence contractors are investing heavily in new production facilities to accelerate the manufacture of missiles, air defence systems and other critical military equipment.

“We’re building it very rapidly. Plants are being built. A lot of equipment is being built. The Patriots in particular are being built,” Trump said, referring to the Patriot air defence missile system.

“Every one of our contractors is building four to five plants right now,” he added, describing the expansion as one of the largest defence manufacturing efforts in recent years.

While expressing confidence in the country’s overall military preparedness, Trump acknowledged that the administration aims to further increase inventories of sophisticated weapons systems.

“We’re in very good shape. But for some of the more sophisticated stuff, we’d certainly like to have more. Biden gave a lot of it away,” he said.

The President’s remarks come as his administration continues to emphasise rebuilding the US defence industrial base amid multiple global security challenges, including ongoing tensions in the Middle East and continued support for American allies.

Trump also defended Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth against criticism over his handling of recent military operations involving Iran, rejecting suggestions that the Pentagon had provided flawed strategic advice.

“No, I think he’s done a great job,” Trump said.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States has significantly expanded production of artillery shells, missiles, air defence interceptors and other key munitions to replenish military inventories while sustaining support for allied nations. Trump said those efforts are now accelerating further, ensuring that the US military remains fully prepared to respond to emerging threats around the world.
