Netanyahu Meets Trump at White House for Eighth Bilateral Talks Amid Regional Tensions

Jerusalem/Washington, July 2026 : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Tuesday for high-level talks with US President Donald Trump, marking their first in-person meeting since Israel and the United States jointly launched military operations against Iran earlier this year.

The meeting is the eighth between the two leaders during Trump’s second term and comes at a critical juncture for the Middle East. According to a White House official, discussions are expected to focus on the conflict with Iran, Israel’s military presence in southern Lebanon, and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords by bringing more countries into the US-backed regional normalisation framework.

Netanyahu entered the White House through the West Executive Avenue entrance, a less visible access point often used for high-security visits. The same entrance was recently used by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his meeting with President Trump. While both leaders have experienced periods of disagreement with the US administration, Netanyahu is generally viewed as maintaining a closer working relationship with Trump.

The visit comes just weeks after Netanyahu urged the US President to support Israel’s military campaign against Iran. Since then, reports suggest that relations between the two governments have faced strains, with senior American officials reportedly expressing disappointment over several of Netanyahu’s wartime assessments that failed to materialise.

Apart from the Iran conflict, the leaders are expected to discuss the future of security arrangements in southern Lebanon, concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme, and diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening the Abraham Accords, which seek to normalise relations between Israel and Arab nations.

The White House said several senior US officials would join the meeting, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, reflecting the strategic importance of the discussions.

As with many of Netanyahu’s previous visits to Washington, a small group of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered near the White House to demonstrate against Israeli policies. Protesters reportedly sounded sirens during the meeting, although the noise was barely audible inside the White House.

The talks are being closely watched by the international community as Washington and Jerusalem seek to coordinate their approach to regional security, the evolving conflict with Iran, and broader diplomatic efforts across the Middle East.
