Priya Leads India’s Golden Boxing Charge with Commonwealth Games Triumph

Glasgow, Aug 2026 : India’s boxing contingent produced a spectacular golden run at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Saturday, with Priya clinching the women’s 60kg title after defeating Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh in a closely fought final. Her 4-1 split-decision victory added another gold to India’s impressive haul in the boxing competition.

Priya displayed tremendous composure under pressure after falling behind on some judges’ scorecards in the opening round. She gradually turned the contest in her favour through precise combinations, effective counter-attacks and intelligent movement around the ring.

The judges’ scorecards reflected the intensity of the three-round battle. Three judges awarded Priya the contest by margins of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, while another judge gave the bout to the Canadian boxer by 29-28. The split verdict ultimately went in India’s favour, handing Priya the biggest title of her Commonwealth Games campaign.

The Indian boxer maintained her calm throughout the contest, matching Al-Ahmadieh during the exchanges before taking control in the crucial stages. Her disciplined defence and ability to land timely punches helped her secure the majority verdict and another gold medal for India.

Priya’s triumph came as part of an extraordinary day for Indian boxing, with Sakshi, Jaismine and Preeti also securing gold medals in their respective categories.

Earlier, Sakshi produced a commanding performance to win the women’s 51kg title, defeating England’s Ruby White by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Sakshi controlled the final with sharp footwork, accurate combinations and disciplined defence. She established an early advantage, with all five judges awarding her the opening round 10-9. She maintained her superiority through the remaining rounds to secure a convincing victory and another gold for the Indian contingent.

Jaismine also delivered an authoritative performance in the women’s 57kg final, defeating Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

The Indian boxer dictated the pace from the opening bell, combining clean punching with superior movement and effective combinations to keep Walsh under constant pressure. Her tactical discipline and ring awareness enabled her to remain in control throughout the three-round contest.

Preeti completed the golden quartet by winning the women’s 54kg title after defeating Canada’s S.S. Delgado by a unanimous 5-0 decision at the SEC Hall 5.

Preeti dominated the contest from the beginning, with all five judges scoring every round 10-9 in her favour for a perfect 30-27 verdict. She also registered a knockdown, underlining her superiority and ensuring another emphatic victory for India.

The four gold medals underlined India’s growing strength in international boxing, particularly in the women’s categories. The victories also demonstrated the depth of talent within the Indian squad, with each boxer combining technical ability, tactical awareness and composure in high-pressure finals.

Priya’s hard-fought victory, in particular, highlighted the resilience required to recover from an early setback and turn a closely contested final in her favour. Together, the four champions delivered one of India’s most successful days in the boxing ring at Glasgow 2026.
