Arundhati Choudhary Leads India’s Golden Boxing Surge with 70kg Commonwealth Games Gold

Glasgow, Aug 2026 : India’s remarkable run in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continued in spectacular fashion as Arundhati Choudhary clinched the women’s 70kg gold medal with a commanding unanimous victory over England’s Chantelle Reid in the final on Saturday.

Arundhati produced a disciplined and dominant performance throughout the three-round contest, securing a 5-0 unanimous decision from the judges. She maintained her composure under pressure and combined sharp counter-punching, intelligent movement and sustained aggression to keep Reid on the defensive.

The Indian boxer dictated the pace from the opening bell and never allowed her English opponent to establish a rhythm. Arundhati consistently found her target with clean combinations while using her footwork and defensive skills to neutralise Reid’s attacks.

The scorecards reflected the Indian boxer’s superiority. Four judges scored the contest 30-27 in Arundhati’s favour, while the fifth awarded her a 29-28 verdict. The unanimous decision underlined her control throughout the bout and capped an impressive campaign in Glasgow.

Arundhati had looked confident throughout the tournament, overcoming her earlier opponents with a combination of technical ability and tactical awareness to book her place in the final. She carried that momentum into the title clash and delivered when it mattered most.

The victory made Arundhati the fifth Indian boxer to win gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, adding to an extraordinary day for the country’s boxing contingent. She joined Priya, Sakshi, Jaismine and Preeti as India’s women boxers celebrated a remarkable collection of titles.

Earlier, Priya secured the women’s 60kg gold after defeating Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh by a 4-1 split decision in a closely contested final.

Priya showed tremendous resilience after conceding the opening round on some judges’ scorecards. She gradually took control through sharp combinations, effective counter-attacks and intelligent ring movement. Three judges scored the contest 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 in her favour, while one judge gave the Canadian a 29-28 verdict.

Sakshi added another gold in the women’s 51kg category, defeating England’s Ruby White by a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision.

Sakshi established control early through her precise footwork, accurate combinations and disciplined defence. She won the opening round 10-9 on all five judges’ scorecards before increasing her dominance as the contest progressed.

Jaismine also produced an authoritative performance to claim the women’s 57kg title. She defeated Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh by a 5-0 unanimous decision, controlling the bout with clean punching, sharp combinations and superior movement.

The Indian boxer kept Walsh under pressure throughout the final at the Scottish Event Campus, refusing to allow her opponent to settle into a rhythm.

Preeti completed the earlier golden run by winning the women’s 54kg title with a commanding 5-0 victory over Canada’s S.S. Delgado.

Preeti dominated all three rounds, with every judge awarding her each round 10-9 for a perfect 30-27 score. She also registered a knockdown, underlining her superiority and ensuring another emphatic victory.

Arundhati’s triumph therefore capped one of India’s most successful days in the Glasgow boxing arena. The five gold medals showcased the depth of India’s women’s boxing programme and strengthened the country’s medal campaign at the Commonwealth Games.

With their combination of technical excellence, tactical discipline and composure in high-pressure finals, India’s boxers have emerged among the standout performers of the Glasgow Games.
