Launch of the Demand Side Management Project to Improve Power Efficiency in the State
Aizawl : A program to launch the ‘Demand Side Management Project,’ aimed at optimizing power consumption in buildings with air conditioning and cooling systems, was held at 10 a.m. today at Aijal Club. The event was graced by the Power & Electricity Minister, Pu F. Rodingliana, as the chief guest.
During his speech, Minister Pu F. Rodingliana highlighted that in the last 10 years, the state’s power demand has increased significantly. While the demand was around 97 MW in 2015, it has now grown to approximately 163 MW. Since the state’s own power generation is insufficient, it necessitates the purchase of expensive power from external sources. Therefore, efficient power usage is crucial. The Minister further explained that saving one unit of power is equivalent to producing one new unit. He emphasized that the Government of Mizoram is taking strong measures to reduce power dependence and is also actively seeking assistance from the Central Government. He expressed hope that more beneficial projects would be initiated soon.
Addressing the audience, the Power Minister also spoke about the need to reduce energy losses caused by AT&C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses and urged workers to take the necessary steps. He encouraged staff to diligently carry out their duties without focusing solely on personal gain, but with a sense of service to the nation and society.
The Demand Side Management Project is being implemented by the Mizoram DISCOM – Power & Electricity Department in collaboration with Green Tree Global Pvt. Ltd., under the guidance of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India. The project aims to reduce power consumption by 10% over the next two years. This initiative is crucial, especially as India is a signatory to the Paris Agreement, where energy efficiency measures are highly emphasized globally.
