Dhamtari: A little different effort……….

In today’s modern era, due to indiscriminate exploitation of water and forests, the water level of our earth is continuously falling, the effect of which has been seen in many big cities in the recent summer season. How people are troubled for water has also been seen in print, electronic and social media. Taking the water problem in the district seriously, Collector Ms. Namrata Gandhi has made many commendable efforts for water and environmental conservation, one of which is the construction of Amrit Sarovars. A total of 119 Amrit Sarovars have been built in all four development blocks of the district. These include 23 Amrit Sarovars in Dhamtari development block, 38 in Kurud, 29 in Magarlod and 29 Amrit Sarovars in Nagari development block.

The Amrit Sarovar built in village Kanharpuri of Dhamtari district has got the distinction of becoming the largest Amrit Sarovar of the state. The special thing about this pond is that the Panchayat earned more income than the cost incurred in building this lake. This was possible due to better use of resources. On one hand, this pond opened a new way of irrigation facility for the farmers. On the other hand, the villagers also got relief from the problem of disposal throughout the year, and the water level of the land remained maintained. It is worth noting that the work of broad gauge is being done by the railway in Dhamtari district. The railway needed gravel and soil for the work of laying tracks in village Kanharpuri and surrounding areas. After discussing with the officials of the Railway Department, an agreement was made with Kanharpuri Gram Panchayat for extracting soil. The soil was extracted from the place in the Mura pond of the village, where the work of deepening the pond was to be done. Excavation work was done as per the requirement of the pond through the railway, due to which the entire picture of the pond changed. Till now, no Amrut Sarovar pond has been built in such a large area anywhere in the state. This pond is filled with water during the rainy season and a sheet of greenery is seen. 70 acres of crops of 46 farmers around the pond will be irrigated. These farmers will not have any worries about irrigation. Here, an agreement was made with the railway that the royalty amount will be deposited in the Panchayat in lieu of extracting soil from the village. Under this agreement, the Railway Department will deposit about 12 lakh rupees in Kanharpuri Panchayat. A separate action plan for the development of the village will be prepared with this amount. The total area of Mura pond of Kanharpuri is 09 acres. Before deepening, the water holding capacity of this pond was only 32 thousand 400 cubic meters, which has now become 57 thousand 800 cubic meters.

Taking these programs forward, Jal Jagar Mahotsav is being organized on a large scale at Ravishankar Reservoir Gangrel on 5th and 6th October. In this festival, Rudrabhishek with the water of 108 Amrit Sarovars of the district, half marathon, Aasman Se Kahani, attractive and colorful cultural presentations, Navratri fair, junk to Jugaad, Rangoli competitions, etc. will be organized. Collector Ms. Gandhi has appealed to the people to participate in this large event as much as possible and play their part in water conservation.
