Singrampur preserves the memories of Dalpat Shah and Rani Durgavati

Singrampur is a gram panchayat under Jabera tehsil of Damoh district, about 54 km from Damoh headquarters and about 51 km from Jabalpur district, the capital of Gond ruler Raja Dalpat Shah and Rani Durgavati. Near Singrampur is the fort of Rani Durgavati which is known as Singaurgarh Fort. The tomb of Raja Dalpat Shah and a huge statue of Rani Durgavati are installed in Singrampur.

Mahakaushal and partly the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh came under the then Gond Empire. Presently this area is under the Jabalpur and Sagar divisions. There were 52 forts under this empire. In this empire, Sangram Shah, Dalpat Shah, and Rani Durgavati ruled from 1500 to 1564 and protected the kingdom from Mughal invaders. Their struggle against the British Empire has been remarkable.

Route to Singrampur

Singrampur can be directly reached by road which is 54 km from Damoh headquarter and 51 km from Jabalpur. One can reach Singrampur from Jabalpur via Narmadapuram from Bhopal. Singrampur can be reached from Damoh via Sagar from Bhopal.

Raja Dalpat Shah

Raja Dalpat Shah husband of Rani Durgavati was the 49th king of the Gondwana Kingdom. He ruled from the fort of Singaurgarh located near Singrampur. His tomb is present near Singrampur.

Rani Durgavati

Veerangana Rani Durgavati was a great Indian ruler, who sacrificed her life for her self-respect and motherland. Singaurgarh fort is established near the village Singrampur of tehsil Jabera of Damoh district. The fort of Singaurgarh was under the control of Rani Durgavati. Rani Durgavati was the only child of Chandela dynasty king Kirat Singh Chandela of Mahoba. The birth anniversary of Rani Durgavati falls on 5 October. Rani Durgavati was born on 5 October 1524 in the fort of Kalinjar (present-day Banda district). King Sangramshah Madavi of Gondwana state was very impressed by the Chandela princess Durgavati. In 1542, Sangramshah married Durgavati to his son Dalpatshah Madavi. In 1545, Rani Durgavati gave birth to a son, who was named Veeranarayan. After the untimely death of Raja Dalpat Shah in 1550, Rani Durgavati took over the reins of the Gond Empire as the guardian of the minor king till 1564. Rani Durgavati is proudly remembered for her fight against the Mughal Empire. She chose the battlefield to protect her honour, religion, and freedom and sacrificed herself in battlefield.
