Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu Visits Taj Mahal
Today, the Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, visited the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, India. This visit is part of his five-day state visit to India, which began on October 6.
During his trip, President Muizzu met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties between India and the Maldives. Both countries agreed to collaborate on key projects, including the development of a commercial port on Thilafushi Island and upgrading airport facilities in the Maldives with India’s support.
President Muizzu’s visit to the Taj Mahal not only highlighted the cultural connection between the two nations but also symbolized a significant step in improving diplomatic relations, which had experienced tension in recent times. He expressed appreciation for India’s financial aid and acknowledged India as a crucial ally, especially in times of crisis.
This marks President Muizzu’s second visit to India this year, following his attendance at Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June. Despite the earlier tensions, the current visit seeks to reaffirm the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and India.
