Jharkhand Elections: Hemant Soren, Babulal Marandi Among Key Contenders
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has released its initial list of 35 candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections scheduled for November 13 and 20. Chief Minister Hemant Soren will contest from the Barhait constituency, while his wife, Kalpana Soren, is set to run from Gandey. The list also features MT Raja from Rajmahal and Dhananjay Soren from Boriyo, among other prominent candidates.
In parallel, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced its six candidates, with leader Tejashwi Yadav confirming that the seat-sharing discussions have been finalized. He assured that the INDIA alliance remains cohesive, continuing its support for Hemant Soren as Chief Minister. While the Communist Party of India (CPI) voiced displeasure over the seat-sharing arrangement, it has decided to contest 15 seats independently.
Additionally, Hemant Soren and Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir earlier declared that JMM and Congress would share 70 seats, leaving 11 for the RJD and Left parties. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed suit by unveiling its first list of 66 candidates, including Babulal Marandi for Dhanwar, Lobin Hembrom for Borio, and Sita Soren for Jamtara.
The election will be conducted in two phases, with results announced on November 23.
