State Excise Department Operation; Seizure of Goods Worth ₹20.75 Lakh in Thane
Mumbai : Various teams of the State Excise Department carried out a coordinated raid in Thane district on November 11 at the illicit distillation centers in Anjurgav and Alimghar Creek, registering a total of seven cases. In this operation, 354 drums of 200-liter capacity, three boilers of 1000-liter capacity, and other distillation equipment were seized. As the goods were perishable, they were destroyed at the location, with an estimated value of 20 lakh 75 thousand.
In this case, the accused have been charged under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, with seven offenses being registered. In connection with the 2024 Assembly Elections, the State Excise Department is conducting raids on illicit liquor production centers, ensuring compliance with the Model Code of Conduct. The operation was conducted under the guidance of State Excise Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, and following the instructions of Director Prasad Surve and Konkan Division Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Pawar. The raid was carried out with the participation of Thane Deputy Superintendent Vaibhav Vaidya, Sub-Inspectors T.C. Chavan, Aba Bodre, H.M. Devkate, Ranjit Ade, A.M. Kapde, and personnel Sandeep Dhumal, Avinash Jadhav, Ramchandra Patil, Raju Rathod, Bhausaheb Karad, Narayan Jankar, Vinod Ahire, Pravin Dhawne, Rupesh Khemnar, and Nitin Lokhande, as informed by Konkan Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Pawar.
