Special Facilities for Disabled and Senior Voters on Election Day in Mumbai City District – District Collector Sanjay Yadav
Mumbai : Voting for the upcoming Assembly elections in the ten constituencies of Mumbai City District will take place on November 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. To assist disabled and senior citizens over 85 years of age in reaching polling centers, the Mumbai District Election System has provided special facilities. Disabled and senior voters are encouraged to submit their requests via the Saksham app to avail these services, according to District Collector and Additional District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav.
For those registered on the Saksham app, facilities such as wheelchairs, vans, eco vans, disabled-friendly buses, taxis, and even stairlifts at polling centers will be available. Disabled and senior voters over 85 years can request assistance on the Saksham app up until Election Day. For those unable to register on the app, officials are visiting homes to collect service requests, as stated by Mr. Yadav.
Physical Amenities: Ramps and Wheelchairs
To ensure smooth access for disabled voters, every polling station entrance will be equipped with appropriate facilities, allowing easy access to building areas of different heights. Access ramps will be provided at polling centers, and electronic voting machines (EVMs) with Braille markings will be available to enable independent participation. Braille voter slips and ballots will be distributed to visually impaired voters, and Braille dummy ballots will be provided at each polling station on Election Day.
Assistants for Disabled Voters and Free Transportation
To support disabled voters, coordinators known as Divyang Mitra have been appointed, along with 671 volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS). Free bus services will be available in all ten assembly constituencies for disabled voters on Election Day, covering 243 routes in 10 ring routes throughout the day.
Disabled voters in Mumbai City District can contact Coordinator Dilip Yadav (Phone: 9594144999) to arrange for transportation. Special arrangements are made to ensure disabled voters can exercise their voting rights without standing in line. The Mumbai City administration and disability coordination officers encourage all disabled voters to utilize these facilities and cast their votes.
