Prasar Bharati Launches ‘Waves’ OTT App
New Delhi: India’s public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, unveiled its new OTT platform, ‘Waves,’ on Wednesday. The app promises to provide users with access to an extensive archive of content from Doordarshan and Akashvani. In addition to archival material, ‘Waves’ offers around 40 live channels, including popular entertainment and news broadcasters. These channels include B4U, ABZY, SAB Group, and 9X Media, alongside prominent news networks such as India Today, News Nation, Republic, ABP News, News24, and NDTV India.
Speaking at the International Indian Film Festival in Panaji, Goa, Prasar Bharati President Navneet Kumar Sehgal highlighted the app’s vision. He emphasized the focus on providing clean, family-oriented entertainment to its audience. He stated, “We are trying to deliver clean and family entertainment,” while showcasing the platform’s diverse features.
In addition to live TV and archived content, ‘Waves’ includes various user-centric services. These features range from news updates and games to a seamless shopping experience through its integration with the ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) network. The app also offers access to a curated selection of movies, broadening its appeal to viewers of all age groups.
Sehgal also noted the platform’s ability to evoke nostalgia by offering classic shows from Prasar Bharati’s archives. “All our archives are available. You can relive your life by watching your favorite shows,” he added. With this launch, Prasar Bharati aims to bridge the gap between India’s broadcasting heritage and the modern-day streaming audience, providing a unique blend of past and present entertainment options.
