On 21st. November, 2024, the deceased Rohitash was brought to the cremation ground for his last rites, after he was declared dead at Rajkiya Bhagwan Das Khetan (BDK) District Hospital, Jhunjhunu. During the cremation rituals, when the body was on the funeral pyre, the man started breathing, and subsequently woke up. He was immediately rushed to Rajkiya Bhagwan Das Khetan (BDK) District Hospital, from where the patient had been referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur, where he succumbed to his sufferings twelve hours later.
Jhunjhunu’s Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sharad Choudhary while addressing the media said – Rohitash who is 47 years of age, is a mentally challenged person living in Maa Sewa Sansthan’s shelter home at Jhunjhunu, fell ill on Thursday afternoon. His treatment began at the emergency department of Jhunjhunu’s BD Khetan Hospital. During the treatment, around 13:30 hours, the doctors declared him dead, and after that, he was even kept in the hospital’s mortuary deep freezer. A Panchanama was prepared, and subsequently the Post-Mortem was performed two hours later, and the body was handed to the organisation. When the organisation’s members placed him on the funeral pyre, he started breathing. His body showed signs of movement, causing panic among those present. He was immediately rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The same has been reiterated by Mr. Ummaid – caretaker of the Mukti Dham, Cremation Centre.
After the news catapulted, the officials were in a state of panic. Collector Ramavtar Meena immediately formed a committee. On the collector’s orders, Tehsildar Mahendra Mund, Deputy Director of Social Justice and Human Rights Department Mr. Pavan Poonia, and other officials reached the hospital. Considering the seriousness of the matter, a high-level meeting of doctors, in the presence of PMO Dr. Sandeep Pachar continued till late night. After the meeting, all the officials returned to the collector’s office, wherein they have discussed the case with higher authorities.
The treating team comprising Dr. Yogesh Jhakad, Dr. Navneet Mir, and PMO Sandeep Pachar were found guilty in negligence of duty, misappropriation of facts was thus suspended.
If the autopsy would have been genuinely conducted then, the person would have not gone through the traumatic burning-live.
