Formation of Cyclone ‘Censel’ in Bay of Bengal Causes Rain; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Conducts Inspection

Due to the formation of Cyclone ‘Censel’ in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall for Chennai and nearby districts. Following this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited several areas on November 30, 2024, including Chennai, Neelankarai, and the State Disaster Management Control Room, to assess the situation and review the preparedness against potential hazards caused by the heavy rainfall.

Inspection of Flood Preparedness and Relief Measures
The Chief Minister held discussions with district collectors of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet via video conference to ensure proactive flood mitigation measures. He instructed officials to expedite water drainage operations and ensure relief camps in affected areas provide essential amenities such as food and clean drinking water.

Site Visits to Monitor Relief Efforts
Today, December 1, 2024, Chief Minister Stalin visited flood-affected areas in Sholinganallur and Selvi Nagar to inspect water drainage operations. He reviewed facilities, including a 1.5 million-liter stormwater collection tank in Selvi Nagar, and directed officials to ensure quick drainage to prevent water stagnation.

In addition, the Chief Minister inspected the Seniyamman Nagar Urban Primary Health Center and evaluated the availability of medicines for diseases prevalent during monsoons. At a suburban government hospital in Chinnasekkadu, he reviewed treatment facilities, medicine availability, and meal provisions for admitted patients, emphasizing the need for immediate interventions in case of power outages.

Acknowledgment of Proactive Measures
Residents expressed gratitude for the timely measures, which ensured minimal waterlogging. Officials accompanying the Chief Minister included Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru, MPs, and corporation officials, who contributed to the comprehensive evaluation of relief and preparedness.
