General Championship Trophy of the 50th Kolhapur Range Police Sports Meet Divided Between Satara and Kolhapur in the Men’s Category, While Kolhapur Dominates in the Women’s Category

The 50th Kolhapur Range Police Sports Meet Concludes with a Grand Closing Ceremony

Kolhapur : Divisional Commissioner of Pune, Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, expressed confidence that Olympic-level players will emerge from the sports competitions organized by the police department. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 50th Kolhapur Range Police Sports Meet. He distributed prizes to the winning players and teams during the event.

He said that sports hold immense importance in everyone’s life. Developing an interest in any sport is essential to maintain mental and physical fitness. Since sports have a prominent place in districts like Kolhapur, it added vibrancy to the competition. Many excellent players will emerge from these games, held in a friendly atmosphere. He also emphasized that police department players should enhance their performance to shine on international platforms.

Prominent attendees included Kolhapur Range Special Inspector General of Police Sunil Phulari, Acting District Collector Sanjay Shinde, Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit, Solapur City Commissioner of Police M. Rajkumar, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, Sangli Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge, Solapur Rural Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni, Satara Superintendent of Police Sameer Shaikh, and Chief Executive Officer Kartikeyan S.

The 50th Kolhapur Range Police Sports Meet began on Friday, November 29, at the Police Grounds, inaugurated by Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit. A total of 19 teams from Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur City, Solapur Rural, and Pune Rural participated in individual and team events, with over 1,200 police officers and staff competing in 19 different sports.

The General Championship Trophy in the men’s category was jointly won by Satara and Kolhapur, while Kolhapur triumphed in the women’s category. The event aimed to provide a platform for police players, allowing those who performed well to compete in state and national-level competitions. Next year’s competition will be hosted by Pune Rural, as announced during the flag handover ceremony.

The competitions included volleyball, handball, kabaddi, kho-kho, football, hockey, basketball, swimming, athletics, cross-country, marathon, wrestling, judo, boxing, weightlifting, and for the first time, Wushu.

Special IG Sunil Phulari congratulated the Kolhapur Police Superintendent and his team for organizing the event successfully. He noted that police officers and staff manage significant responsibilities, including Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, VIP visits, and festivals. Such competitions provide them with a refreshing break from their daily challenges. He urged the participants to channel the energy gained from these events into constructive work and collective efforts to maintain low crime rates.

Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit emphasized that such sports events are crucial for fostering team spirit and providing a positive environment amid the challenges of changing work dynamics. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Additional Superintendent of Police Nikesh Khatmode Patil and anchoring by Monika Jaju. Students from Warna Valley School, Talsande, showcased a thrilling Mallakhamb performance during the event.
