Strengthening Government Hospital, Sriperumbudur to Better Serve the Community
The Government Hospital in Sriperumbudur, established in 1952, has been a crucial healthcare facility for 16 town panchayats and 132 villages. With 53 beds, the hospital offers diverse medical services across its Male and Female Wards, Paediatric Block, Ophthalmology Block, Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) Block, Accident & Emergency Block, and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Block.
Strategically located along the Chennai-Walajapet National Highway (NH48), the hospital is a lifeline for road traffic accident (RTA) victims, handling a significant caseload of approximately 838 outpatients and 51 inpatients daily.
Recognizing the need to strengthen this vital healthcare institution, the Government of Tamil Nadu has approved a comprehensive upgrade under the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Project (TNHSRP) with financial assistance from the World Bank. The state government, today, has issued orders to sanction Rs. 3.22 crore for the following:
• Installation of dialysis machines
• Provision of a CT scan facility
• Minor civil and electrical works required for the CT scan setup
These enhancements aim to expand the hospital’s capacity to deliver highquality healthcare services and reduce the dependency of patients on other government hospitals for essential facilities.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible and advanced medical care for the people of Sriperumbudur and its surrounding areas.
