Udhayanidhi Stalin Lays Foundation for ₹127.9 Cr Sports Projects, Awards ₹26.69 Cr to Medalists
Honorable Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin laid the foundation for district sports complexes, Olympic academies, and para sports arenas worth ₹127.90 crore across various districts. In Tirupattur district’s Yelagiri Hills, he inaugurated a newly built indoor sports stadium worth ₹4.93 crore. He also presented cash incentives worth ₹26.69 crore to 1,021 sportspersons who won medals in international, Asian, and national sports events.
During an event held today (7.1.2025) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, the Deputy Chief Minister distributed cash rewards to athletes under initiatives by the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department. The sportspersons rewarded included medalists in sports such as fencing, squash, kabaddi, athletics, swimming, and para-sports.
He emphasized better facilities for sports across Tamil Nadu, laying the foundation for new district sports complexes worth ₹15 crore each in Tirupattur and Kallakurichi, a ₹50 crore Olympic academy in Tiruchirappalli, and a ₹42.90 crore aquatic Olympic academy in Ramanathapuram.
This initiative follows the Dravidian model of governance, which has allocated ₹143.85 crore in cash incentives for 4,352 athletes in the past three years for their achievements in global, Asian, and national-level competitions.
The event was attended by Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, MLAs, officials, and notable sportspersons.
