Administrative Approval Granted for 42 Excise Department Projects in the State; 9 Projects Completed

Mumbai : The State Excise Department, ranked as the third most significant revenue-generating department for the government, has been working on the construction of offices for its inspectors and superintendents according to a standardized type plan. The government has granted administrative approval for the expenditure required for 42 construction projects across the state, out of which 9 projects have been completed.

The completed projects include the State Excise Bhavan in Mumbai, the residence of the Superintendent in Nashik, the Superintendent State Excise Office in Jalna, Hingoli, and Amravati, staff quarters in Washim, the Inspector Office’s protective wall in Talegaon Dabhade (Pune district), the Inspector Office and residence in Sangamner (Ahilyanagar district), and the Mobile Squad Inspector Office in Satana (Nashik district). Efforts are underway to modernize all departmental offices.

A new structural framework for the State Excise Department has been approved, with a sanctioned workforce of 3,842 officers and staff. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the department generated an estimated revenue of ₹23,289 crore.

The department’s seven-story Commissioner’s Office building in Fort, Mumbai, has been recognized as the “Best Government Building” of 2024. Construction projects at district and sub-divisional levels have been ongoing for the past 4–5 years. For the fiscal year 2024-25, the government has allocated ₹110.47 crore for construction activities within the Excise Department.
