Approval for 14.95% Fare Hike in ST Stage Transport Services Fare Hike Effective from Midnight of January 25

Mumbai : The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Mumbai, has received approval for a 14.95% fare hike in stage transport services as per the formula set by the Hakim Committee. This revised fare structure will come into effect from January 25, 2025 (post-midnight of January 24, 2025), as announced by the State Transport Authority (STA).

The fare revision was proposed due to rising costs of essential components like diesel, chassis, and tires, as well as an increase in dearness allowance. The Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of MSRTC submitted a proposal to revise passenger fares accordingly. This proposal was presented during the 276th meeting of the STA, as the last fare hike was implemented on October 26, 2021.

Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the state government has established the STA. The 276th STA meeting was held on January 23 under the chairmanship of Sanjay Sethi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home – Transport), with members including the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) and the Transport Commissioner in attendance.

Additional Approvals from the Meeting:

  • Environment-Friendly Buses: Approval was given for the new BS6-compliant buses in tomato-red color.
  • E-Buses: Green and white were approved for 50 e-buses, while 100 e-buses will follow the current Shivneri sky-blue color scheme.
  • Cab Licenses: Renewal of Rent-a-Cab licenses and issuance of new licenses were also approved.

Details of the Revised Fare Hike:

Below are the new fare rates for different types of services:

  1. Ordinary Buses:
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹8.70
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹10.05
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹11
  2. Semi-Luxury Services:
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹11.85
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹13.65
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹15
  3. Non-AC Sleeper Buses:
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹11.85
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹13.65
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹15
  4. Shivshahi (AC):
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹12.35
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹14.20
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹16
  5. Shivneri (AC):
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹18.50
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹21.25
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹23
  6. Shivneri Sleeper (AC):
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹22.00
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹25.35
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹28
  7. E-Buses (9m AC):
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹12.00
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹13.80
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹15
  8. E-Shivai / E-Buses (12m AC):
    • Current fare (6 km): ₹13.20
    • Revised fare (6 km): ₹15.15
    • First stage fare (incl. accident fund): ₹17

This fare revision is expected to make the fare structure more sustainable while ensuring better services for passengers. The STA has urged citizens to take note of the updated fares and continue utilizing the improved transport services.
