Mumbai Municipal Budget Without Tax, Fee, or Surcharge Hike
Mumbai : The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has presented a budget without any increase in taxes, fees, or surcharges, bringing relief to the city’s residents. This progressive, development-oriented budget prioritizes education, healthcare, sanitation, and other essential services for all sections of society, from students and office workers to daily wage laborers and entrepreneurs. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed it as the beginning of a modern Mumbai.
Speaking to the media after a Cabinet meeting at Mantralaya, Deputy CM Shinde said, “The ₹74,427 crore municipal budget presented today reflects Mumbai’s rapid transformation and development. We have completed the concreting of roads in two phases, paving the way for a Global Mumbai. I congratulate Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar for their efforts in shaping this visionary budget.”
Highlighting Mumbai’s growth trajectory, Shinde stated that ₹43,000 crore will be allocated for infrastructure projects, showcasing the state and central governments’ commitment to the city’s development. The record increase in capital expenditure and the ₹7,000 crore rise in municipal revenue reflect the city’s financial strength, for which he commended the administration.
The budget also includes a ₹1,000 crore allocation for BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport). Efforts to boost tourism and enhance transport efficiency have been prioritized. Shinde reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Mumbai pollution-free, pothole-free, and corruption-free, emphasizing that under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, Mumbai is emerging as India’s fintech capital. He concluded by stating that this budget marks the beginning of Mumbai’s rise on the global map.
