Delhi Elections: BJP Workers Celebrate Party’s Resurgence After 27 Years

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to make a comeback in the Delhi Assembly elections after 27 years, as early trends show the party crossing the majority mark. Jubilant BJP workers gathered outside the party headquarters in New Delhi, celebrating with firecrackers, dance, and slogans. Senior leaders, including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and party vice-president Baijayant Panda, also met at the office to assess the party’s strong electoral performance.

According to early Election Commission trends, the BJP is leading in 46 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 24 constituencies. The majority figure required to form the government in Delhi’s 70-member assembly is 36 seats, indicating a decisive shift in the capital’s political landscape.

Prominent AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, are trailing. Kejriwal is behind by 1,174 votes in the New Delhi seat, while Saurabh Bharadwaj is trailing by 1,003 votes in Greater Kailash against BJP’s Shikha Roy. In Kalkaji, Delhi Minister Atishi is lagging by 3,231 votes against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. Among AAP’s top leadership, Manish Sisodia is the only candidate currently leading, holding a 2,438-vote advantage in Jangpura.

Reacting to the early results, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva credited the party’s success to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the public’s rejection of AAP’s governance model. Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva emphasized that this election was a battle between good governance and misgovernance.

“Delhi Has Rejected Kejriwal’s Model”: Sachdeva

“The people of Delhi have chosen Modi ji’s model of good governance over Arvind Kejriwal’s failed administration. The city’s condition—contaminated water, crumbling roads, poor sanitation, and Yamuna pollution—reflects the misgovernance of AAP, which the people have now rejected,” said Sachdeva.

He further asserted that the public’s anger over corruption scandals and AAP’s failure to deliver on key promises contributed to the party’s downfall. “Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj—all of them are the faces of corruption. The people of Delhi will not forgive them, and they will lose the election because they have betrayed the public,” he added.

BJP’s Campaign Strategy and Key Issues

The election campaign saw aggressive attacks from the BJP on AAP over allegations of corruption, poor governance, and mismanagement of public funds. The BJP targeted AAP over issues like the alleged poisoning of the Yamuna River and the lavish renovation of Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally led the charge, using terms like “disaster” and “Sheesh Mahal” (Glass Palace) to criticize Kejriwal’s government.

The voting for the Delhi Assembly elections took place on February 5, recording a 60.54% voter turnout. With final results expected soon, all eyes remain on whether the BJP secures an outright majority and forms the next government in Delhi.
