Kolasib Observes Road Safety Month

Kolasib : A program marking the observance of Road Safety Month was held yesterday morning at Diakkawn Traffic Point, Kolasib. The event was organized by the District Road Safety Committee and presided over by Pu Benjamin Lalhmingsanga, District Transport Officer, with Kolasib SP, Pu David H. Lalthangliana as the chief guest.

During his speech, the chief guest emphasized the significance of Road Safety Month and mentioned that even before the official launch, Traffic Police and Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) had already intensified their vehicle inspections starting this month. He highlighted that the initiative aims to increase awareness and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic rules for public safety.

SP Kolasib stated that implementing various measures to enhance safety is a collective responsibility. He urged all attendees to actively participate in awareness programs throughout the month. He also warned that violations of traffic laws, including reckless driving, underage driving, using mobile phones while driving, and driving without valid documents, would be strictly penalized. He further stressed the importance of public cooperation in adhering to road safety regulations.

In his report, the SP revealed that in 2023, Kolasib District recorded 15 fatal accidents, while in 2024, the number was 8. As of 2025, one fatal accident has been reported so far.

The event was attended by Kolasib SP, Pu Robert C. Lalhmangaiha, Kolasib DC, Heads of Offices, Police and Traffic Officials, drivers, vehicle owners, and local residents. A pledge to uphold road safety rules was also taken as part of the Road Safety Week observance.
