One Nation One Helpline Rally Held in Lunglei
Lunglei – The One Nation One Helpline Rally was successfully organized in Lunglei today to raise awareness about three essential helpline numbers for those in distress and in need of assistance: 112 (emergency services), 181 (women’s helpline), and 1098 (child helpline). The rally commenced from the Senior CMO Office and concluded at the Lunglei Police Station.

The rally was flagged off by Lunglei District Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt. She emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding these helpline numbers and urged citizens to use them effectively, especially for children, women, and individuals in distress. She highlighted that anyone in need of help can access these helplines anytime, even if they are unable to seek assistance directly. The rally aimed to spread awareness and ensure that people know how to use these emergency services efficiently.

Emergency Response System and 112 Helpline
The event was coordinated by Pu R. Lalsanglura, Account Assistant at the Lunglei District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW). During the concluding session, Lunglei District Additional Superintendent of Police, Pu K. Beihmotaosa, elaborated on the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) helpline 112, which was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in 2022. He explained that 112 provides assistance for police, fire, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other crises. Calls to 112 are first received at the State Data Centre in Aizawl before being redirected to the respective district data centres for further action.

To enhance emergency response services in Lunglei, three tablets have been installed at the district headquarters, and one each in Bunghmun, Lungsen, and Tlabung. He also pointed out that people can dial 112 quickly by pressing the power button of their smartphone three times in succession. Additionally, the “112 India” mobile app is available for download from the Play Store, and he encouraged everyone to install it for added safety and quick access to emergency services.
Child Helpline 1098
Pu Robin Lalramnuama, Counsellor at the Lunglei District Child Protection Unit (Child Helpline Unit), provided insights on Child Helpline 1098, which has been operational in Mizoram since 2023. He emphasized that 1098 is a toll-free helpline dedicated to children under 18 who are in distress, facing abuse, or in need of protection. He reassured that even those without phone balance can call 1098 for free. So far, the helpline has handled 224 cases in the district.
Women’s Helpline 181
For issues concerning women’s safety and domestic violence, Pi Laldanmawii, Centre Administrator at Lunglei One Stop Centre (OSC), discussed the significance of Women’s Helpline 181. She noted that 181 has been active in Mizoram since 2016, serving as a confidential and reliable support system for women facing harassment or violence. She emphasized that victims or those who witness violence can seek help through this helpline, and the identity of the caller is strictly protected. The One Stop Centre at Serkawna Baptist Higher Secondary School remains open for women in need of assistance.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Initiative
The One Nation One Helpline Rally was organized in alignment with the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. The rally saw participation from officials of the Women & Child Development Department, DHEW, OSC, police personnel, other government officials, and members of the Electric Veng Local PYD.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Lunglei DHEW District Mission Coordinator, Pi K. Lalrinawmi.
