Review Meeting of Maharashtra Maritime Board
Mumbai : Maharashtra and Mumbai are blessed with vast and scenic coastlines. Effective measures should be implemented to utilize these coastal areas for commercial purposes and enhance government revenue, said Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane. He was speaking at a review meeting on the functioning of the Maharashtra Maritime Board, which he chaired.
The meeting was attended by Maharashtra Maritime Board’s Chief Executive Officer Pradeep P., Chief Engineer Rajaram Gosavi, Finance Controller and Chief Accounts Officer Sarangkar, Deputy Collector Anjali Bhosale, General Manager Rohit Puri, and Deputy Director (Asian Development Bank) Dr. Mahesh Chandurkar.
Minister Rane emphasized that proper planning and utilization of these coastal areas could generate significant revenue for the Maharashtra Maritime Board.
Representatives from Kochi Metro presented a proposal based on their successful backwater metro network in Kerala, suggesting the launch of a water metro service in the rivers of Mumbai and Thane to ease traffic congestion. Additionally, CRISIL representatives discussed the potential for boat manufacturing in the state, highlighting that such projects could create employment opportunities.
