Major Relief in Electricity Bills: Impact of PM Surya Ghar Scheme in Kodatarai
833 Consumers Applied, Solar Plants Installed in 69 Homes
Raipur : The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is proving to be a game-changer in reducing electricity expenses for rural households. In Kodatarai village, Raigarh district, the scheme has provided relief to several families, helping them save thousands of rupees on their monthly electricity bills. Besides cutting costs, the initiative is promoting clean energy and playing a crucial role in environmental conservation. The success of this scheme in Kodatarai sets a benchmark for other villages to follow in the future.
For residents like Jaynarayan Chaudhary and Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary, the scheme has been nothing short of a blessing. Jaynarayan Chaudhary shared that his monthly electricity bill used to range between ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. Upon learning about the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, he immediately applied. Within a month, a 3-kilowatt solar plant was installed at his home, costing ₹1.9 lakh, with a subsidy of ₹78,000.
Similarly, Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary applied through the electricity department and had a 3-kilowatt solar plant installed within 1 to 1.5 weeks. His solar system generates 300-350 units of electricity per month, significantly reducing his electricity bill. Both consumers have praised the initiative and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana, implemented on 29th February 2024, aims to provide affordable and sustainable energy to Indian households. Under this scheme, domestic consumers can install 1, 2, or 3-kilowatt solar plants on their rooftops. Interested applicants can apply at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. The scheme allows for an average savings of 300 units per month, potentially reducing electricity bills by ₹2,000. Additionally, bank loans covering up to 90% of the installation cost are available at a minimum interest rate of 7%.
So far, 833 consumers in Raigarh district have applied for the scheme, with 69 households already equipped with solar plants. Kodatarai village has been designated as a model solar village, with 46 out of 187 eligible applicants having applied and 4 households successfully installing solar plants.
