Meeting of Political Party Representatives on Delimitation in Seven States
A meeting of political party representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab regarding delimitation is scheduled to take place tomorrow (March 22, 2025).
Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, has issued a press release emphasizing our firm stance on this matter.
This is the talk of the town right now. Why has the DMK brought this into focus? Because by 2026, delimitation will take place. If the delimitation exercise is carried out based on population, our representation in Parliament will be severely impacted. That is exactly why we were the first to raise our voice.
This is not just about the number of MPs—it is about our State’s rights. That is why we convened a meeting with all parties in Tamil Nadu. Except for the BJP, every other party stood united. Together, we passed a resolution demanding a fair delimitation process. More importantly, we decided to join hands with other affected states to fight this together.
To take this forward, I wrote letters to the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab. I also sent letters to the leadership of all major parties representing these states in Parliament.
A delegation comprising one Minister and one MP personally met these leaders to explain our stance. I personally spoke to all the Chief Ministers over the phone. In response to our invitation, some have confirmed their participation, while others—due to prior commitments—will be sending their representatives.
The first round of discussions will be held in Chennai on March 22. Why are we organizing this meeting now? Because if Tamil Nadu and the other states we have reached out to lose representation due to delimitation, it will strike at the very foundation of federalism in India. It will erode the essence of democracy itself. Our voices in Parliament will be silenced. Our rights will be compromised.
This is nothing short of a deliberate attempt to undermine certain states. States that have effectively controlled their population growth, governed efficiently, and contributed significantly to national progress must not be punished by the Union Government.
That is why, with consensus from most parties in Tamil Nadu, we have convened this meeting to unite all the affected states. This meeting will chart the way forward. Based on its outcome, we will take the next steps. Our rightful demand will prevail. Our initiative will protect India!
