Yogi govt lays 5,07,479 km of water pipeline across UP

Lucknow : The double-engine BJP government has revolutionized water accessibility in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring clean drinking water reaches every village. Once struggling with acute water scarcity, the Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions now have tap water in every household, bringing relief to thousands of families.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission has turned this vision into reality, making Uttar Pradesh a leader in rural water supply.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state by providing the highest number of tap connections. More than 2.36 crore rural households have received functional tap connections so far under the leadership off the Yogi government.

Notably, before August 15, 2019, only 1.97% of households had tap connections, a figure that has now surged to 88.61%.

Besides, road restoration work in 60,354 villages has been completed in 60,354 villages, while 24,050 have been certified under the Har Ghar Jal initiative. Additionally, 5,07,479 km of water pipeline has been laid across the state.

Furthermore, in Uttar Pradesh, 80% of Jal Jeevan Mission projects are powered by solar energy, with 33,157 projects utilizing solar technology to generate 900 MW of electricity daily. This has led to a reduction of over 50% in the cost of extracting water while also cutting carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 13 lakh metric tonnes annually.

So far, 28,526 solar plants have been installed in rural areas under the mission. The state has seen laying of 5,07,479 km of water pipelines, construction of 37,462 pump houses, and boring of 38,456 tube wells in villages. Additionally, 16,472 overhead tanks have been installed, with another 22,803 currently under construction.

More than 99% of schools and Anganwadi centers in Uttar Pradesh now have access to tap water supply. So far, over 4,80,205 women have been trained in water testing, and a Jal Gyan Yatra has been conducted with 10,000 school children across 64 districts of the state.

The Yogi government has also focused on skill development to generate employment in rural areas. Till now, 1,16,037 rural plumbers, 1,16,667 electricians, 1,15,505 motor mechanics, 1,16,078 rural fitters, 1,75,880 rural masons, and 1,16,007 rural pump operators have been trained, equipping them with skills for livelihood opportunities.

In Bundelkhand, more than 14,18,861 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) have been provided across seven districts. This includes 1,39,784 connections in Mahoba, 2,05,866 in Lalitpur, 2,49,106 in Jhansi, 1,63,698 in Chitrakoot, 1,85,465 in Hamirpur, 2,06,512 in Jalaun, and 2,68,430 in Banda. The water sources for nine districts of Bundelkhand and Vindhya include the Betwa, Yamuna, and Son rivers, along with 35 dams that are being utilized to meet the region’s water needs.

In the Vindhya region, over 3,49,332 families in Mirzapur and 2,67,822 families in Sonbhadra have received functional household tap connections. Additionally, road restoration work in 60,354 villages across the state has been fully completed.

To ensure the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission in rural areas, feedback has been actively gathered from over 21,901 Gram Pradhans. So far, 24,050 villages in Uttar Pradesh have been certified under the Har Ghar Jal initiative.

Success Story

*Over 14.21 crore villagers in Uttar Pradesh have directly benefited from access to clean drinking water through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

*Before 2019, only 1.97% of households in UP had tap connections — today, this figure has risen to an impressive 88.61%.

*Uttar Pradesh ranks number one in the country in providing tap water connections.

*Every day, around 40,000 new villagers in UP receive tap water connections.

*The Jal Jeevan Mission is currently being implemented in 7 cities of the state: Jhansi, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Mahoba.

*In Bundelkhand alone, 42 projects are underway, with water being sourced from the Betwa, Yamuna, and Son rivers.

*Water from 35 dams is being utilized under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure clean and reliable supply across the region.

Achievements of Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh

*Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Namami Gange Rural Water Supply Department established the Swachh Sujal Village at Mahakumbh, using this world-class platform to raise mass awareness about water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and clean drinking water. Over 30 lakh visitors experienced the transformative impact of the mission in Uttar Pradesh.

*Uttar Pradesh’s Jal Jeevan Mission was honored with the second prize by Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu at the 5th National Water Awards Ceremony (2023).

*The Jal Jeevan Mission, Uttar Pradesh, also received the Best Display Award at the International Trade Show 2024 held in Noida.

*Uttar Pradesh emerged as the first state in the country to provide the highest number of tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
