Government Committed to Ensuring High-Quality Coal for Power Production
Mumbai : The state government is actively working to ensure the availability of high-quality coal at lower costs and in a timely manner, through detailed analysis at every stage—from production to usage. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed MahaNirmiti (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company) to prepare a comprehensive and well-researched proposal for the Gare Pelma-II (GPII) coal mine.
A meeting regarding coal mines was held under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis at the Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary for Energy Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, and MahaNirmiti’s Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan B.
CM Fadnavis emphasized that the state is making continuous efforts to ensure the timely procurement of good-quality coal from various suppliers for power generation. He instructed that all necessary government approvals should be obtained for the Gare Pelma-II coal block in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, and that MahaNirmiti should present a comprehensive proposal to the Cabinet regarding coal production.
He further directed that MahaNirmiti should aim to reduce production costs so that electricity can be provided to consumers at lower rates.
During the meeting, MahaNirmiti Chairman and MD Radhakrishnan B. gave a presentation on coal procurement and electricity generation operations being carried out by the organization.
