Government Scheme Paved the Way to Employment: Dinesh Singh Makes a Mark in Fish Farming, Now Providing Jobs to Others
Ambikapur : Government schemes have opened new avenues of self-employment for educated unemployed youth. By leveraging these initiatives, many young individuals are not only launching their own ventures but also creating employment for others. One such inspiring story is that of Dinesh Singh, a resident of Udumkela village under the Sitapur development block, who has set an example of success through fish farming.
Fish Farming as a Means of Livelihood
Dinesh Singh, who holds a Master’s degree in Political Science, chose to pursue self-employment due to limited job opportunities. During this time, he learned about the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, which offers a 40% subsidy for fish farming. In 2022, he applied to build a pond on his one-hectare land. With government assistance, he received ₹4.5 lakh for construction, of which ₹2.8 lakh was provided as a subsidy.
Annual Income of ₹9 Lakhs
He stocked his pond with 10,000 fingerlings of Rohu, Catla, Mrigal, Common Carp, and Rupchanda. His business has since flourished, yielding 5–6 tonnes of fish annually. Selling them at a wholesale rate of ₹150 per kg, he earns approximately ₹8–9 lakh per year. Even after deducting expenses, he makes a net profit of ₹4–4.5 lakh annually. Moreover, his venture has provided permanent employment to 2–3 individuals, supporting their livelihoods as well.
Dinesh Singh’s journey proves that with the right use of government schemes, youth can become self-reliant. His dedication not only improved his family’s financial condition but also inspired others in his village to pursue self-employment. Such schemes play a vital role in strengthening rural economies and addressing unemployment.
