Mayawati Reinstates Nephew Akash Anand as BSP National Coordinator.
In a surprising turn of events, BSP chief Mayawati has reinstated her nephew, Akash Anand, to the position of the party’s National Coordinator and reaffirmed him as her political successor. This decision comes over a month after he was removed from the key post amidst the Lok Sabha election campaign.
Mayawati had initially removed Akash Anand, stating that his removal would stand “till he becomes mature.” The decision was influenced by his aggressive language during campaign speeches, which drew significant criticism. Notably, Akash Anand had faced an FIR in Sitapur after referring to the Union government as a “government of terrorists.” His comments during an election rally in Sitapur included calling the government a “bulldozer government” and comparing it to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
However, in a notable reversal on Saturday, Mayawati listed Akash Anand as one of the star campaigners for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly bye-elections. This move indicates a shift in strategy and a reinstatement of confidence in her nephew’s political abilities.
The controversy surrounding Akash Anand’s earlier statements also led to legal actions against BSP candidates Mahendra Yadav, Shyam Awasthi, and Akshay Kalra, as well as rally organizer Vikas Rajvanshi, who were all booked by Sitapur Police.
On Sunday, Mayawati convened a meeting at the BSP’s office to review the party’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party failed to secure any seats. The meeting focused on analyzing the reasons behind the poor performance and strategizing for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections. It was during this meeting that Mayawati announced Akash Anand’s reinstatement, responding to the party cadres’ support for him despite the electoral setbacks.
This decision marks a significant development in the BSP’s internal politics, positioning Akash Anand once again as a central figure in the party’s future endeavors.
