50 Cyber Police Stations to Control Cybercrime
Rs. 440.37 Crore Saved from Frauds in 2024
Mumbai : The state government is taking concrete measures to swiftly investigate cyber fraud cases and prevent such incidents in the future. To control cybercrime, the government is working at various levels. As part of this, 50 cyber police stations have been set up across the state, and a cyber lab is being established at the district commissioner level. Trained personnel have been appointed to work in these labs. Additionally, the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project has been launched, bringing world-class and revolutionary initiatives to the state.
From January to December 2024, the Maharashtra Cyber Office received a total of 3,32,538 complaints via the NCRB portal and Cyber Helpline 1930. Out of the total amount defrauded in cybercrimes, Rs. 440.37 crore was saved. With the increased use of computers, laptops, and mobiles for large-scale financial transactions, the government has provided a platform on the website cybercrime.gov.in and toll-free number 1930 for citizens to file immediate complaints regarding financial fraud.
In 2024, a total of 2 cybercrime cases related to online financial fraud were registered in Mumbai city, 125 in Pune city, and 862 in Thane city. Of these cybercrime cases, 838 have been solved, and 942 accused individuals have been arrested. Additionally, across the state, 1 cybercrime case has been solved, with 1 arrest made.
To strengthen the control over cybercrimes, dedicated nodal cyber police stations are operational. Cybercrime complaints are being registered and immediate actions are being taken through the helpline numbers 1930 and 1945 under the Command and Control Center. Through the Center of Excellence, 5,000 police personnel will be trained in cyber investigation and preventive measures over the next five years, as informed by the Police Deputy Inspector General of Maharashtra Cyber.
