Sports Minister Briefs On Upcoming ‘Aizawl International Half Marathon’

Aizawl – Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services, held a press briefing in his office chamber regarding the upcoming ‘Aizawl International Half Marathon 2025’ scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar stated that the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) is being jointly organized by the Government of Mizoram, the Department of Sports & Youth Services, and Innovations India, and is officially recognized by the Athletics Federation of India. He mentioned that this will be an annual event. Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) and Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma have been appointed as Chief Patrons of the marathon. “This international event is aimed at promoting health and fitness among the youth while showcasing Mizoram’s unique identity to both national and international participants. It also aims to boost tourism in the state,” he said.

The Minister further stated that not only Mizo youth but also participants from across India and abroad have shown keen interest in joining the AIHM. “So far, five runners from Kenya and several participants from the Services have confirmed their participation,” he added.

The Aizawl International Half Marathon will start from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium and will feature three categories: 21.1 km, 10 km, and 5 km. All races will conclude at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. Registration fee is Rs. 799 per participant, which includes a running kit and other amenities. The total prize money is Rs. 10 lakh. Alongside the competition, there will also be cultural performances and a concert at the finish point to celebrate the event.

Participants can register online at https://aihm2025.com, and offline registrations are also being facilitated at the Millennium Centre. Additional offline registration drives are planned for various schools and colleges across the state.

Today’s meeting revealed that over 200 individuals have already registered for the marathon. To promote the event, banners and hoardings have been put up in various locations around Aizawl, and 200 posters have been distributed to schools, colleges, and gyms. A dedicated social media campaign has also been launched to raise widespread awareness.

In addition to the briefing, the meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations and plans for the event. Senior officials from the Sports & Youth Services and Tourism Departments, along with representatives from Aizawl SP, Traffic SP, Aizawl DC, Aizawl Municipal Corporation, Salem Veng Local Council, Mizoram Athletics Association, and Mark Events, were in attendance.
